Video games are very popular among all ages and genders and one Florida teen is facing a lawsuit over the creation of an addictive video game.
I used to play video games when I was a kid, but as I've gotten older I definitely play less and less. I remember years of having friends over to play Mario Kart on Nintendo 64 or Guitar Hero on the weekends. It was great family time too. Even though now I really only play Solitaire on my phone, I know that I'm in the minority. People love video games. And I'm sure you know people who probably play too much. They may even say they're addicted. Well, one Florida teen is facing a lawsuit over the creation of an addictive video game.
Florida Teen Faces Lawsuit Over Creation of Addictive Video Game
14 year-old James Napier created a video game when he was 11 called Capuchin. According to the game's description, in it, "you can roam around, get eaten by Dave, explore the environment, learn new ways to move" as a capuchin monkey and you can play alone or with friends. Pretty impressive for a young kid right? Well, unfortunately some people aren't happy about it.
WESH reports that Napier is facing a lawsuit that the video game is "addictive". And he's not alone in the lawsuit, as other companies like Meta, Roblox and Microsoft are also under fire. The lawsuit says that the companies worked together with experts to make the game as addictive as possible to make more money. And not only to adults, but to minors as well.
To me, I feel like any game, or anything for that matter, can be addictive, but that's where personal responsibility and parenting comes into play. I'm just impressed that an 11 year-old kid was able to do this. I have a feeling he has a bright future ahead of him. We'll have to wait and see if this lawsuit has any legs, but in the meantime Napier says he's saving the money he makes off the game for college.
