Florida Man Matthew K. Franklin let his emotions get the best of him and threw caution to the wind, firing a submachine gun into his own house. Which of course, was full of drugs and more guns.
On Sunday, 34 year old Florida Man Matthew Kyle Franklin got into an argument with a female at his residence of 11928 Xavier Avenue in Englewood, Florida. During the dispute, the female reported Matthew vandalizing her vehicle and having possession of a submachine gun style firearm. She also stated that the firearm had been fired into the home from outside, with a bullet coming within feet of where she was. He shot at his own house.
The woman additionally advised that Matthew was in possession of an assortment of other firearms as well as various illegal narcotics. She also warned the Charlotte County Florida cops that Franklin had made threats to shoot law enforcement if they were called. So they were prepared.
The Submachine Gun and The Drugs
On Monday a search warrant was executed by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team at Matthew Franklin’s residence. Once they were inside the home, the deputies located a bullet hole in the wall where the woman said it would be. The officers also found ammunition, firearm parts, and a 'large quantity' of illegal narcotics. And for the cherry on top, the cops found the submachine gun style firearm that matched the description provided by the female. Franklin, however, was not home. But he wasn't hard to find.
Franklin’s vehicle was located at a separate location near White Avenue/Deepwoods Avenue in Port Charlotte, Florida. Not too far away. Our Florida Man was discovered at this location and placed under arrest. Already having a felony conviction is gonna make these charges sting more. Let's go to the board:
Matthew Franklin was charged with:
- Possession of Firearm/Ammunition by Convicted Felon
- Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (with a submachine gun)
- Felony Criminal Mischief (Over $1,000 damage)
- Resisting Officer without Violence
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Additional felony charges are forthcoming in reference the drugs seized. Franklin remains in the Charlotte County Jail, where he is being held without bond. Is there a lesson here? I guess if your house is filled with illegal guns and drugs, maybe don't call attention to it by shooting at it. This is a weird one. Also, what is he looking at in the mug shot, aren't they required to look forward?
