Jimmy Buffett is a Florida icon and to take your knowledge one step further, a new Jimmy Buffett course is coming to University of Florida.
The love for Jimmy Buffett, especially in Florida runs deep. My family has long been Jimmy Buffett fans. It's the music we always have on by the pool, we've stayed at Margaritaville resorts and this year I went on the Margaritaville At Sea cruise to the Bahamas. There's also a Jimmy Buffett tribute band in the Chicago area we love called Pirates Over 40. It was a very sad day for not only my family, but many others, the day he passed.
For those of us that live in Florida, we enjoy an endless summer filled with gorgeous beaches and palm trees, but think of those that live in places that get cold in the winter, they need a little Jimmy Buffett in their life. The island vibe is an instant mood lifter and you can't help picturing sun, sand and a frozen concoction in hand, no matter the weather. As Jimmy says "It's 5 o'clock somewhere!" And if you've ever been to a concert, it's a sea of Parrotheads singing and dancing the night away.
Jimmy Buffett Course Coming To University Of Florida
August 30th was Jimmy Buffett Day, but the celebration will continue all year at the University of Florida as a new Jimmy Buffett course will be offered. The course is titled (Un)Common Arts: “Son of a Son of a Sailor.” And what I love is that in true Jimmy Buffett spirit, the class starts at 5:10pm. Instructor Melissa L. Johnson, Ph.D. says that the course will involve research into the connection Jimmy Buffett has to Gainesville, including looking at concerts played there, plus diving into his songwriting and charity work. Makes me want to go back to college!
