Colonoscopy Nightmare: Florida Doctor Without Hearing Aids Oblivious to Screaming Patient

This is the thing of nightmares. Imagine you're on a surgical table, about to get a colonoscopy, and the guy in charge, Dr. Ishwari Prasad and he isn't wearing his hearing aids. Now, I don’t know about you, but that’s not exactly the moment when you want someone to be hard of hearing. But that's just the start of the medical insanity that got this Tampa doctor put on probation by Florida’s Board of Medicine.

According to Yahoo News, Dr. Prasad, who’s been doing these medical procedures since 1990, found himself involved in two back-to-back colonoscopies that turned into a horror show. In the first one, he let a surgical tech who, by the way, didn’t have a medical license, take the reins and start doing the colonoscopy scope work. That’s like letting a Uber driver fly an airplane. It did not go well.

And then came colonoscopy number two. Prasad, still without his hearing aids, started poking around before the patient was even fully knocked out. Yikes. Imagine getting probed and realizing halfway through that the doctor isn’t even aware that you’re awake and screaming. No thank you sir. 

The state’s Board of Medicine slapped him with a $7,500 fine and threw in some other fees for good measure. But that’s not all. They told him he can't go Han Solo on any gastroenterology procedures until he proves he's up to the task. That means he's gotta either get evaluated or do ten procedures under supervision. And no, he can't just wing it with any old supervisor, only someone who knows what they’re doing in the gastro world. 

Prasad’s been in trouble before, but nothing this crazy. There were some big payouts to patients in the past for mistakes. One patient even DIED after a colonoscopy gone wrong! This whole fiasco has been a major "pain in the ass" for everyone involved... The medical board, the bumbling Dr. Prasad and especially the patients.
