When you think of the names of sporting arenas, they're usually insurance companies, banks, etc. but now you can see a game at Pitbull Stadium in Miami.
The big announcement came yesterday that international recording artist Pitbull has purchased the rights to name the Florida International University stadium, home of the Panthers, Pitbull Stadium. The agreement is for 5 years, with Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Pérez, to pay $1.2 million each year for the next 5 years, with the option for extension in 2029. So it could potentially turn into a 10-year deal.
You Can Now See A Game At Pitbull Stadium in Miami
Pitbull does call himself Mr. 305, so it's only fitting that a stadium in Miami will be named after him. And it's just not the stadium name that will change. Pitbull will also be recording a new anthem for FIU, contributing to social media and making appearances at fundraisers on behalf of the school. According to News 6, a vodka brand that he owns will also be the preferred brand at the stadium.
This is a big moment in history as FIU is the first university to have an athletic building named after a musician.
I do have an idea now that Pitbull is in the mix. This could be a great way to advocate for animal rescue. While FIU already has a mascot, a panther, maybe there could be a side mascot and it could be a pitty. Dress it up with a chain and some sunglasses and have it make appearances during team events! We all know that pitbull mixes are always in shelters up for adoption, so this could be a good way to tie in something new for a good cause.
