Meth and Mayhem: Florida Man Caught in High-Stakes Golf Cart Chase with Police
It was supposed to be another quiet night in Lady Lake, until the Florida man brought meth and mayhem to the Villages. Out of nowhere, a shiny gold golf cart flew down County Road 25. Now, I’m not talking about some old man going for a slow and leisurely ride. This is full-on, pedal-to-the-metal golf cart chase.
According to the Villages News, David Morley Pope, a 55-year-old from the Village of Silver Lake, was behind the wheel. And he was cruising down a road where golf carts have no business being. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s a cop right there, dealing with some other traffic issue. He spots this crazy cart, and decides to go after him.
Now, as ridiculous as it seems, we have a cop in a squad car trying to catch up to a golf cart. Pope isn’t making it easy either. He whips his cart of meth and mayhem into a nearby RV Resort, going the wrong way down a one-way street, of course. Our guy Pope seems to have a personal vendetta against all traffic laws. He doesn’t care about any of them.
Meth and Mayhem Madness:
Eventually, he stops. The officer approaches, and Pope hands over a suspended Michigan driver’s license. (Okay, if this is any indication of how Michigan drivers are on the road, I’m never going there.) As it turns out, during this little joyride, Pope tried to ditch a glass pipe. Cops found it nearby, and it’s got meth residue on it. His passenger throws him under the bus, saying that it’s his pipe and that he tried to get rid of it.
Okay, so Pope’s not just any reckless driver. His Michigan license was suspended because he’ racked up multiple DUIs and controlled substance violations. Plus, that golf cart he’s rolling in? It’s not even supposed to be on a road where the speed limit’s 55 mph.
So, what do you get when you mix some meth and mayhem with a golf cart? A bunch of charges. We’re talking about driving with a suspended license, no vehicle registration, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Oh, and a little bit of tampering with evidence too. Pope is currently in the Lake County Jail on a $4,500 bond.
