Beach Umbrella Impaled Florida Woman’s Leg in Freak Accident

Americans Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend At Myrtle Beach. Meanwhile, A relaxing day at Cocoa Beach turned chaotic when a beach umbrella impaled a woman’s leg in a freak accident.

Who wouldn't want a nice day at Cocoa Beach, right? Families are out, kids playing, people are soaking up the sun. All seems good. But then, BAM! Out of nowhere, a beach umbrella impaled your leg. Like it up and decides it wants to be a spear. Yeah, well, according to FOX35, it happened to a poor Florida woman.

This woman, just chilling with her family near the water, suddenly gets impaled by her rental umbrella. How? Well, that's the thing… No one really knows. Maybe a strong gust of wind, maybe a angry seagull. But this beach umbrella impaled her after going rogue. It dislodges from the sand, and went straight into her leg. Now, that's what I call a bad beach day.

So, the police get the call and rush to the scene. They quickly realize this isn't your typical beach incident. The umbrella is stuck in her leg, and it's not coming out easily. The first responders, probably scratching their heads, end up having to get bolt-cutters just to take off the canopy from the pole because it keeps moving around. Ouch. Talk about adding insult to injury.

The Cocoa Beach Fire Department and Brevard County Fire Rescue came to the rescue. They're the real heroes here, dealing with this crazy beach umbrella impaled a lady situation. How exactly did this happen? No one has a clue, and the woman's current status is still a mystery.

Here's the thing, though, as weird as it sounds, beach umbrella accidents are not anything new. In 2023, a woman in South Carolina actually died after a beach umbrella impaled her chest. And in 2019, a kid in Massachusetts ended up in the hospital when he got hit by a flying umbrella.

So next time you're at the beach, keep an eye on those umbrellas. They might seem harmless, but apparently, they can turn into deadly and ruin your day.

Two Florida Beaches Made List Of Best Beaches In America

Two Florida Beaches Made List Of Best Beaches In America

Living in Florida with so many beautiful beaches, it's shocking that only two beaches made a new list of the best beaches in America. We're so lucky here in SWFL to have Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, beaches in Naples, Bonita Springs, Marco Island and Boca Grande nearby. We may be a little partial to our area since it's home, but if you're looking for the best of the best, it looks like you may have to travel a few hours north.

Dr. Stephen Leatherman, a professor at Florida International University, is also known as Dr. Beach. He's also an author and scientist and his research has taken him to beaches all over the country. In fact, he's visited 650 major public beaches in the United States to determine the very best. Talk about a dream job! He was even featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show for having one of the best jobs in America. He just released his list of the best beaches in America.

Dr. Beach uses 50 different factors including sand softness, water temperature, number of sunny days, wildlife, views, amenities and noise. You can see the full list here, but below are the top 5.

The Top 5 Best Beaches in America, According to Dr. Beach:

5. LIGHTHOUSE BEACH, BUXTON, OUTER BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA

This beach is the #1 surfing spot in the country on the Atlantic coast. Also, parking is convenient located close to the beach and it's an easy walk to the water.

4. CALADESI ISLAND STATE PARK, DUNEDIN/CLEARWATER, FLORIDA

This beach is one of my favorites. I make sure to take a trip up here at least once a year. You can only get to Caladesi by boat, but if you don't have your own, there is a ferry that will take you out there. You'll enjoy white sugar sand and super clear water.

3. COOPERS BEACH, SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK

Coopers Beach is on the south shore of Long Island, New York. You'll find white quartz sand with sand dunes covered by beach grass.

2. DUKE KAHANAMOKU BEACH, OAHU, HAWAII

Kahanamoku Beach is on the west end of Waikiki Beach. Not only will you find a wide beach, but it's also protected by an offshore coral reef so it's great for families with kids. This beach offers great views of the Diamondhead volcano as well.

1. ST GEORGE ISLAND STATE PARK, FLORIDA PANHANDLE

If you're looking for clear water and sugary white sand, look no further than St. George Island. Covering nearly 2,000 acres, this is a favorite for beach lovers, fishermen and nature enthusiasts.
