Florida Grocery Stores Go Nuts Over Listeria Recall

Hormel Foods recalls Planters snacks distributed to some Florida Grocery stores due to potential Listeria contamination.

Look out! Florida grocery stores may have gone nuts for Listeria! If you've been munching on some PLANTERS nuts from Publix or Dollar Tree lately, then you might want to put down those pistachios. According to FOX35, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration hit the alarm button on May 3, 2024, saying there's a chance these snacks might contain some unwelcome bacteria.

Hormel cooked up some of their famous "PLANTERS" Honey Roasted Peanuts, (My Favorite) and some of their Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts at one of their spots. Then, they shipped them off to some Florida grocery stores like Publix, and some other stores in Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina. Also, some unlucky Dollar Tree stores in South Carolina and Georgia got some of these not-so-fun nuts.

Turns out, these nuts could be playing host to something real nasty called Listeria monocytogenes. Yum. It's the kind of bacteria that can really ruin your day, especially if you're little, old, or have a weak immune system.

Now, if you've got any of these suspected snacks from Florida grocery stores, here's the what you need to watch out for… We're talking about 4-ounce packs of PLANTERS Honey Roasted Peanuts and 8.75-ounce cans of PLANTERS Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts. Keep an eye out for UPCs 2900002097 and 2900001621 on the side of those cans, and flip them over to check the "Best if Used By Date." If you spot "04 11 25" or "05APR26," you're holding a suspect.

But hey, Hormel says these are the only troublemakers in the bunch. And don't worry, nobody's reported feeling under the weather from munching any of these yet. They've already given a heads-up to all the Florida grocery stores caught up in this mess.

Now, if you got these snacks, don't eat them! Toss them out or take them back to the store for a refund. Hormel isn't messing around with food safety, and neither should you. They're currently investigating where this nastiness came from, so for no, be carful with deez nuts.

Ranking All 10 Of The Cape Coral Publix Stores From First To Worst

We all have opinions on which is the best Publix. Where I live, I have 3 different Publix I could go to, all within about 5 minutes of each other. Do I have a favorite? Yes. Is there another Publix that might be a little closer? Also yes. But why? Shouldn't all Publix be the same? They should, but they're not. Some are better than others, for whatever reason. That's why I decided to rank all of the Cape Coral Publix stores. We'll go from top to bottom.

So what started this? Everyone has an opinion. I can go even one step further. There's a lot of Publix stores in Southwest Florida. So, I like going to one Publix, but then prefer the liquor store next to a different Publix. In this case, it's the woman who's usually working at that Publix Liquors. She's hilarious. So I buy my vodka and Coronas from a location different from where I get groceries and losing lottery tickets. I really need to give up that habit. Not the vodka, the lottery tickets.

How I Created The Cape Coral Publix Rankings.

According to the Publix website, there's 10 Publix stores in and very near Cape Coral, Florida. Personally, I've been to the one at Santa Barbara and Cape Coral Parkway West the most. Taking my thoughts out of this, I went to Google reviews. Since many of the stores have a similar review summary number, I added in the number of reviews. If you have a lot of people that take the time to review a grocery store, and you still have a high ranking - you must be doing something right.  And yes, one of these is technically North Fort Myers, I know. Once you get into northern Cape Coral, I never really notice when I cross into North Fort Myers.

But all of the Publix Stores have fairly high rankings

Right. Because we love Publix. That's the only place I can get a Pub Sub. Sure, we may go to Aldi's for some things. You may even go to Wal Mart and pick up some groceries. But if you live in Southwest Florida, you shop at Publix. I'll include one final thought - this magic moment:
