DreamWorks Land Has Opening Date at Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando is going to keep getting better and better as the theme park has announced an opening date for DreamWorks Land.

Universal Orlando theme parks are a favorite for many. At Universal Studios, they bring movie magic to life and over at Islands of Adventure, you don't have to look too far for thrills. I enjoy going to both parks, as they both have something a little different to offer. And of course, my favorite way to get from one to the other is via the Hogwarts Express. There's something extra magical about taking that train ride from one land to the next. But just when you thought the parks couldn't get any more awesome, Universal has announced an opening date for DreamWorks Land.

What Will Be New At DreamWorks Land?

If you have a trip to Universal planned this summer, you'll be able to experience so many new and exciting things at Universal Studios. DreamWorks Land opens June 14 and is inspired by DreamWorks movies like Shrek, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda. There will be character meet & greets, splash pads, a new live show, and interactive play areas. Some of the highlights include the Trollercoaster, Shrek's Swamp, and the Panda Village.

You won't want to miss CineSational: A Symphonic Spectactular, also opening June 14, a nighttime lagoon show featuring music and scenes from movies like Harry Potter, Jurassic World and Shrek. Opening July 3, enjoy the Universal Mega Movie Parade which will be the a daytime parade featuring 13 floats and almost 100 performers.

Will There Be Any New Food Items at DreamWorks Land?

Yes! There will be some fun swamp snacks like Shrekzel, Far Far A Waffle, and Frozen Ogre. You can also enjoy some Trolls ice cream in flavors like Poppy-licious Pink and BroZone Berry.

Change is inevitable, and Universal Orlando is no different. There's always something new being built, but, because space is limited, this often requires something else to be shut down. In just one difference between this summer and last, you'll notice there's no more Shrek 4D. The area is now blocked off with temporary work walls covered in minions graphics. I heard a rumor that's going to be a minions themed moving walkway attraction. Shoot, if you know where to look you can find the old Shrek stuff. That'd actually be fun to own some of that stuff to outfit your game room.

So what's some of the other rides and attractions that made way for new ones? Read on for the trip down memory lane.

Back to the Future - The Ride

Almost need a DeLorean to get back to this one. This ride's story was replaced in 2007 with The Simpsons Ride.

Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue

In 2016 this show ended and made way for Fast & Furious - Supercharged.

Disaster!® – A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring YOU

This one was also removed to make way for Fast & Furious

Dragon Challenge

This was actually two coasters. They used to launch them at the same time, but people were getting injured from loose items flying off of the coasters. In 2017 it made way for Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure.

Jaws

Who didn't get their picture taken with the big hanging shark back in the day? This attraction took up a lot of space and in 2012 was ended to make room for Harry Potter Diagon Alley.

Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast

In 2011 it was changed to Minion Mayhem.

Kongfrontation

In 2002 this ride was revamped into Revenge Of The Mummy, one of my personal faves as it's it's a great way to get out of the heat for an hour or so.

Lucy – A Tribute

This one I knew very well as I spent much time at the Broadcast Center right next door. In 2015 this changed over to the Hello Kitty Shop.

Shrek 4-D

This is the one that's being switched over right now. It closed just a few months ago and it's replacement hasn't been officially announced yet.

The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad

This show ended in 2018. I couldn't find an official reason why it closed but the production looked very expensive.

TWISTER…Ride It Out

The main thing I remember about this one was how LOUD it was. In 2015 it was shut to make way for the race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.
