Florida Is Filled With The Best Destinations For Snowbirds

In the northeast, this is the time of year when residents start to get ready to escape the cold. It's inevitable, right around the corner from the holidays comes those winter temperatures. StorageCafe recently detailed the best destinations for "snowbirds" this year, and eight of the top ten destinations were in Florida.

"Snowbirds" refer to those people who take flight to escape the winter conditions of the northern cold climate in an attempt to seek comfort in warmer conditions. Typically in the United States, this means going down to the southern region of the country. However, StorageCafe has explained that the term "snowbird" is now expanded, given the normalcy of working from home. The remote option has inspired the growth of "zoombirds." This is significant because it further enables the option to set up shop wherever you see fit.

Many northerners traditionally have their winter home in states like Florida, where they can avoid the snow and enjoy the outdoor options. Then, they return north typically, from May through October. Yet, from mid-2020 on, snowbirds realized that can move down south, and well, just stay there. StorageCafe wanted to examine the best places for snowbirds to retreat. "We wanted to determine which cities offer the best bang for the buck for snowbirds and zoombirds alike, the places that check all the lifestyle boxes while also taking into account the affordability aspect."

In total they analyzed 215 cities, looking at 12 different criteria areas. Here are the Florida destinations that finished as the best landing spots for snowbirds.

8 Florida Cities, 1 Arizona, 1 Texas

The top spot went to Venice, Florida. "It excels in several other categories, including the share of housing units for seasonal use (87%), golf courses (it is the 5th best among the cities analyzed for golfers), as well as its health sector," StorageCafe explained.

  • #2 is Vero Beach
  • #3 is Fort Pierce
  • #4 is Naples
  • #5 is Lake Wales
  • #8 is Tarpon Springs
  • #9 is Fort Myers
  • #10 is Clermont

Outside of Florida, Mission, Texas (#6) and Apache Junction, Arizona (#7) scored favorably for snowbirds as well.
