Quite a lot of the new Fort Myers Beach Margaritaville Hotel looks like it's ready for guests. The exterior at least. The bright colors of the walls. The air conditioners are set on the roof. Everything looks like it's moving along. Perfect timing, too. They'll be dodging afternoon rains starting any day now.
Compared to the May update, I'm really seeing progress being made on the waterpark structures. That place should be a nice spot. Guests can hang out on the beach, or ride on waterslides overlooking the gulf. Or hang out at the Fins Up Beach Club. Drone video from Brian Kennedy shows the progress being made. make no mistake, this hotel is going to be the centerpiece of a whole new Fort Myers Beach.
Even though the resort isn't even open yet, the FMB Margaritaville Hotel facebook page is already up over 27,000 followers.
Once they start bringing in guests, this will really revitalize Fort Myers Beach. I'm thinking in a few years we'll see a brand new FMB. And area businesses are going to benefit greatly. We've come a long way since October....

Hurricane Ian made landfall near Cayo Costa, an island off the coast of Fort Myers, just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. With Ian, came 150 mph winds, the fifth-strongest hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. According to ABC News, "Ian then made a second landfall 90 minutes later, still as a Category 4 storm with 145 mph winds, just south of Punta Gorda, near Pirate Harbor."
While the efforts to restore Fort Myers Beach will be a years long recovery, our whole area is suffering greatly. The causeway to Sanibel collapsed and the docks sustained heavy damage, making the island only accessible by helicopter. There's some areas where we don't even know yet the extent of the damage.
We will rebuild. But this is going to take a long time.
