Florida Airport Ranks #1 For Flight Delays

Flight delays airport

This Florida airport ranks #1 for flight delays. So if you want the best odds of being on time when flying this summer, try to avoid it. It is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The ranking comes from AirHelp, a company that focuses on the rights of air passengers. They collected data on airports with the most delays and flight disruptions in April. The idea is to give you valuable info when considering the airports to fly in and out of for your personal and business travel.

Florida Airport Ranks #1 For Flight Delays

According to the statistics, Fort Lauderdale saw more than 44% of all flights disrupted in April. However, I think it's only fair we peer behind the curtain a little here. April did see a big influx of Spring Break travel. In addition, remember those terrible rains that flooded Lauderdale? The waters literally stranded people at the airport. That is not a normal occurrence. It stands to reason that these two things contributed to the airports dismal rating last month.

Other airports with flight delays

Fort Lauderdale does not stand alone by any means. Kahului Airport n Hawaii also ranked high on the list with over 36% of flights being disrupted. It's the 3rd straight month this airport has shown up in the top five. Lihue Airport came in at number three, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport ranked number four. Rounding out the top five is Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.

One more thing. If you your summer travel involves the New York City area, try to avoid Newark Airport. It has the worst on time record for the area. It's always good to keep these things in mind while booking your Memorial Day and summer travel. If you have a short travel window, the last thing you want is to spend half of your time off waiting in an airport.
