Drunken Biker Goes on Wild Ride Through Sanibel Island.
It's not often you see a drunk cyclist weaving down the road, but when you do, you can bet it's going to be a wild ride. And that's exactly what happened on Sanibel Island. According to NBC2, Richard Ballard, a 56-year-old man, was arrested for riding his bike while under the influence.
According to the Sanibel police department, Ballard was caught riding without any lights on Periwinkle Way. Now, I don't know about you, but riding a bike without lights is dangerous enough when you're sober, let alone when you're three sheets to the wind. It's like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded, only you're on two wheels and surrounded by cars.
Wild Ride:
Of course, the police officers quickly noticed that Ballard was a bit "intoxicated" (their words, not mine), and asked him to take a breathalyzer test. And boy, did he fail that test. His blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, which is pretty impressive when you consider that he wasn't even driving a car.
Now, I know what you're thinking... "Can you really get a DUI while riding a bike?" The answer, my friends, is a resounding yes. And if you don't believe me, just ask Coy Fisher. Riding a bike while drunk is punishable by law. I mean, come on Coy, haven't you ever heard of a little thing called public safety?
As for Bike Ballard, he's lucky he didn't hurt himself or anyone else while riding his bike under the influence. So, let this be a lesson to all you drunk cyclists out there. If you're going to ride your bike after a few too many drinks... At least put some lights on that thing. And for the love of all that is holy, stay on the sidewalk.
