Matthew McConaughey Could’ve Been Woody Harrelson’s Brother

Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey

Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey speak onstage at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on August 25, 2014 in Los Angeles, California.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are already as close as brothers, but they could have actually been brothers. Brothers from the same mother but different fathers, that is. In a new interview promoting their upcoming show called Brother From Another Mother, McConaughey revealed his mother knew Harrelson's father on an intimate level.

McConaughey, 53, opened up about the bromance with his True Detective co-star they've shared for decades now. While recalling a family trip to Greece with his and Harrelson's family, McConaughey's mom Mary dropped that particular bombshell.

Who 'Knew'

"In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families. And my mom is there. And she says, 'Woody, I knew your dad,'" Matthew McConaughey said. "Oh, everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after 'knew.' It was a lovely k-n-e-w." After he and Woody unpacked what this "knew" meant, they did the math, and the results astonished them.

Woody's late father, Charles, was on furlough while Matthew's mom and dad were in their second divorce. (The couple married three times in all.) The Texas native added, "Then, there’s possible receipts in a place that’s out in West Texas where there might have been a meeting or a ‘knew’ moment."

In the pair's upcoming comedy series for Apple TV+, Woody and his family will live with Matthew and his family at McConaughey’s Texas ranch. As we previously reported, McConaughey will be joined by his wife, Camila Alves and their three children: son Livingston, 10, daughter Vida, 13, and son Levi, 14. Meanwhile, Harrelson will bring his wife, Laura Louie, and their three children: daughters Deni, 30, Zoe, 26, and Makani, 16. On the upcoming series, McConaughey joked that a DNA test should be part of the project.

McConaughey's dad, James Donald, James died in 1992. McConaughey revealed in his Greenlights memoir that his father died after climaxing while having sex with his mother. "He's always told me and my brothers,'" the actor wrote in his book. "'Boys, when I go, I'm gonna be making love to your mother.' And that's what happened. He had a heart attack when he climaxed."

One of our favorite pastimes in Masters Week is to check out what's going on with all the patrons on the grounds at Augusta National. Masters patrons photos.

The hats, the outfits, the joy, the heartbreak. It all plays out visually with massive crowds at the most beautiful golf course in the world.

This year made for some slim pickings when it comes to patrons photos, and that's largely because of one thing: Weather. Thursday was about the only day that everyone was feeling their best. The rest of the time, we've had some combination of wind, rain, cold or trees falling.

But nonetheless, we found some great visuals, and we want to share them with you now. Here's the 18 best photos from the 2023 Masters patrons at Augusta National.
