Mariah Carey Is Back On Top

Mariah Carey

What song means Christmas to you? Apparently it's "All I Want For Christmas" for a large majority of people. It's because of that song that Mariah Carey is back on top of the charts. The song was first released in 1994 and is now #1 on the Billboard Charts. The song is on the album “Merry Christmas.” Since being released, the recording has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.  It has become a Christmas anthem for many people.

Mariah is the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas. Although millions of people might agree, not everyone does. Two other singers lay claim to the title. And that's just people in the recording industry. Forget all of those so-called Christmas Queens who are masters of holiday decor and entertaining.

Mariah Carey is back on top of the charts, years after her Christmas release.

The singer tried unsuccessfully this year to trademark the title. She also went for "Princess of Christmas." Denied. Singer Darlene Love also claims to be "Queen of Christmas." That's because David Letterman called her that on his late night television show decades ago.

Then there is Elizabeth Chan. She is a prolific songwriter. She is the one who filed the motion opposing Mariah's effort to trademark the title. Chan has released twelve Christmas albums. I don't know anyone who has one. I'm sure they are lovely. However, Chan has written hundreds of holiday songs including a few new ones that mention the whole "Queen of Christmas" dispute.

Back to Queen Mariah. Every year she makes creative and sometimes elaborate Halloween videos. They all have the same theme. That is not only farewell to Halloween, but also hello to the holidays. November 1st is when she blasts "All I Want For Christmas" and the holidays are officially on.

Remember the video? This is the song that has Mariah Carey back on top of the charts
