Even After Hurricane Ian, The Most Expensive Home In Sanibel History Just Sold

Sanibel is the home to most expensive home

Despite this year's hurricane season, the most expensive home in Sanibel history just sold.

This stunner was on the market for only 20 days. Sanibel has long been a popular vacation spot and real estate investment hub, so it's no surprise that it didn't last long on the market.

While working at a flower shop, there were opportunities to visit this home multiple times with deliveries. Jokingly, I told the owner that I would be very comfortable in the guest house.  Not sure she thought it was all that funny, but it's true. This house is unreal and every bit of the millions it sold for.

What makes this home so special?

This home on West Gulf Drive sits on 3.29 acres. It was listed for $12 million and closed just 20 days later at $11.7 million. The home is 6,654 square feet and features 5 bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms. It has 300ft of beachfront offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico. The home also has a 3-car garage, elevator, wine room and library. Let's not forget about the pool, spa and yes, a guest house as well.

This tropical oasis was built in 1998 by former Gartner CEO Manuel A. Fernandez and his wife. The property just sold to Storm Smart founder Brian Rist and his wife Kim.

News Press reports that this sale outdid the previous high of another home on West Gulf last year for $11 million. In 2021, the highest sale price in Lee County was on an estate on Captiva that went for $17.15 million.

SWFL Cities Make List Of Most Expensive Homes In Florida

Living in Florida, we've all seen our fair share of very expensive homes and SWFL cities have made a list of those with the most expensive homes in the state.

I love driving around Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers Beach or neighborhoods like Gulf Harbour and Port Royal and looking at those huge houses and dreaming..ahhh maybe one day.

Stacker put together a list of cities with the most expensive homes in Florida using data from Zillow , ranking them by the Zillow Home Values Index for all homes as of July 2022. And we are talkin' big money. The most expensive city on the list has a typical home value of $8,321,638, the state average is $402,837.

If you've been in the market for a house, I'm sure you're very familiar with the real estate market and how much higher houses have been priced over the last few years. In fact, Florida home values have risen by 81% over the past 5 years and the same trend is projected for the next 5 years. If you're a seller, of course this is great news because the value of home has gone up and you'll have your pick of offers, however if you're buying, not only is selection limited, but higher mortgage rates may cause you to have to spend less or postpone your purchase.

Looking at some of the properties in the cities on this list, there is definitely no shortage of money!
