The Petition to Save Splash Mountain At Disney World Is Nearing 100,000 Signatures
Disney World has announced the closing date for Splash Mountain as January 23, 2023. So if you want one last Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da ride you'll need to do it soon. Because Splash Mountain is being re imagined with a new story based on The Princess and the Frog. According to Inside The Magic, "Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is expected to open in late 2024, which implies that the reimagining will take up to two years."
But people who love the nostalgia of Splash Mountain are not happy. As one poster on the change.org board wrote "The story behind Splash Mountain will likely never be known to 99% of riders. Rather, it’s seen a cute ride with animal characters. Please don’t redo this ride. Give The Princess and the Frog it’s own due, as WDW should have years ago by putting a Tiana’s Place in at Port Orleans, the riverboat at Disney Springs, or returning the paddle boat at Magic Kingdom."
She's not wrong. Splash Mountain isn't really about the banned movie Song Of The South. It's a lot closer to "The Tales of Uncle Remus: The Adventures of Brer Rabbit", a book you can still buy on Amazon. And the petition to save the ride is nearing 100,000 signatures.
That ride has been at Disney World since 1989 and is a true landmark. Many people rode it as a kid, then took their own kids on the ride. The attraction has really fallen into disrepair and it's unlikely that Disney will change it's mind on this. So if you want one last splash, you should plan that trip soon.
