Limiting Kids’ Screentime Is A Good Idea

No matter what type of content your kids are consuming online, it's a good idea to limit the time that they spend on their screens. Psychologist Keith Klosterman, PhD, LMFT, LMHC, tells us, "I think parents make the mistake of overusing the iPad... it can distract kids and keep them busy and occupied, which allows parents to do other things. But I think it comes at a cost because then kids are sort of indoctrinated to that at an early age."

"They just get used to it as part of the norm and they miss out on doing other things. And that's why in general, you know, I think the American Academy of Pediatrics has guidelines on how much screen time kids should get. Every family is different. But I think being aware of the price of using iPads to occupy kids too often, is important." The time the AAP recommends different time limits depending on the child's age.
