Lewis Hamilton Will Sit Out F1 Miami Grand Prix If He’s Not Allowed To Wear His Jewelry During The Race
With the inaugural Miami F1 Grand Prix race slated for this Sunday you'd think your primary concern that could keep drivers off the track would be the weather. We've had a little more rain here in South Florida than usual. This new course looks amazing, and I'd hope the drivers would be just as excited to get out on it as we are to see this level of racing in Miami. Most are. There is one guy, however. The guy with in Formula One who has won a joint-record seven World Drivers' Championship titles, and holds the records for the most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes. Lewis Hamilton. Here's his beef with the rules:
According to Brobible, "During the F1 Miami GP pre-race press conference, Hamilton took exception to the memo and said that he felt that the ban was a “step backwards” for the sport." And then to further his statement, Lewis wore 3 watches, 8 rings, 4 necklaces and 2 earrings to today's press conference.
He said:
“I feel like it’s almost like a step backwards,”
“If you think of the steps we’ve taken as the sport and the more important issues and causes that we need to be focused on. I think we’ve made such great strides as a sport… we’re here in Miami… this is such a small thing."
“I’ve been in the sport for 16 years, and I’ve been wearing jewelry for 16 years. In the car, I only have my earrings on and my nose ring, which I can’t even remove.”
And if the ban prevented him from racing this weekend:
“If they stop me, then so be it. We’ve got a spare driver, so we’re all ready and prepped for the weekend. There’s lots to do in the city anyway! It’ll be good either way.”
