If you love pineapples and the color pink then get ready to jump for joy!
Global produce brand, Del Monte Fresh Produce, announced on Monday that genetically-modified pink-fleshed pineapples are now available for purchase, according to Food & Wine.
The pink pineapples were approved in 2016 by the FDA, and now four years later in 2020 when nothing makes sense, the officially-named Pinkglow Pineapples are available nationwide. But only through two online retailers found via PinkglowPineapple.com.
Del Monte Fresh Produce is calling it the "Jewel of the Jungle" on their website. The Instagram-ready fruit is grown on a select in the South-Central region of Costa Rica and has a "unique taste, with notes of candy pineapple aromatics."
You may be asking yourself what makes the fruit pink? According to their FAQ, Pinkglow Pineapples contain lycopene, a natural pigment that gives some produce its red color.
