Jesse O'Dell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, claims Starbucks overcharged him for a $10 coffee run by over $4000. He says that he and his wife regularly buy coffee from the chain. In fact, they've been doing so for the past 16 years. However, on January 7, 2023, Jesse was charged an additional $4,444.44 for the coffee. Jesse's wife Deedee noticed this when the same card she used at Starbucks was declined at the mall. Hence the headline: Starbucks expensive in Tulsa.
Jesse contacted the Starbucks district manager about the unusual charge. However, he told him there was an issue with the network and that it was a "sticky button issue." Starbucks sent him two separate checks totaling $4,444.44. But they bounced after he deposited them into his bank account. Jesse claims that he and his wife tried to contact Starbucks customer service several times but didn't receive a response until they were called by a representative in Seattle who assured them that new checks were being sent.
However, Jesse and Deedee claim they have not received any new checks. Nor have they heard from Starbucks since then. The family cancelled a planned family trip to Thailand because of the situation. Starbucks confirmed they are aware of the situation and that it is due to human error, and that the issue has been resolved. The representative stated that the O'Dell's should receive their reimbursement checks in the mail soon.
Jesse advises others to always check their receipts and be cautious when using a credit or debit card at any location. So, yeah, Starbucks is not cheap and "Starbucks Expensive in Tulsa," is a FACT!
HERE IS AN UPDATE TO THIS STORY:
We were contacted by Starbucks and they wanted to add their side of the story. Starbucks says the wrong tip was entered by the customer. The coffee giant did admit to a typo on the original refund check to the customer but said a new check was issued January 31st. That check was received and cashed February 6th.
