Jets beat the Dolphins

Jets Beat the Dolphins

The Jets beat the Dolphins, and Miami dropped their first divisional game of the season. A hobbled Dolphins team playing without their top 2 quarterbacks, top 2 corners, and top 2 tackles fell to the Jets 40-17. The game was closer than the final score might suggest. The Jets played a great game. I am not taking anything away from the them. However, Miami fans should take a page out of Aaron Rodgers' book and RELAX. Every team is going to have these types of stretches this season. They get hit hard by injuries and almost chalk a game up to a loss in order to get healthier. I think this was that game for the Dolphins as the Jets beat the Dolphins.

Skyler Thompson Played Well

Skyler Thompson played well with all things considered. But to think a rookie could come in off the bench on the road and deliver is naïve to say the least. The running game was fine with Mostert rushing for over 110 yards and a touchdown. The game really turned when Jason Sanders missed a 3rd quarter field goal that would have given the Fins their first lead of the day. To New York's credit, they did what good teams do in the NFL. They didn't allow the Dolphins to get back into the game. And good for them. The Jets are no longer a laughing stick in the league, and they need to be taken seriously.

Special Teams

Special teams continues to be a big problem for the Dolphins. They can't cover punts or kickoffs. They are bottom of the barrel in basically every special teams stat. I mentioned Jason Sanders' missed field goal in the 3rd quarter. But the Jets got a couple of nice punt returns in the 2nd and 3rd quarter as well. I think the defense will turn it around in Miami once Xavien Howard and Byron Jones are back healthy- or at least just one of them. I am not panicking for these 3 reasons. 1) Skyler being thrown in on the road as a rookie. 2)the defense will get healthier and not allow 40 points every game. And 3) this is the NFL. Every team has some stinker performances. Last season the lowly Jaguars beat the high flying Buffalo Bills.

Down Goes Teddy

Teddy Bridgewater was on the field for just 1 play. In that play Teddy hurt his elbow and head, and had a safety.

Here Comes Skyler

Thompson faired well in his first NFL action going 19/33 yards for 166 yards and 1 interception, although that was on a tipped pass so I won't tear him apart for that.

Zach Wilson Is Good

Zach Wilson looks like a good quarterback this season in the relatively small sample size we have. Wilson was 14/21 for 260 yards and 0 TDs and picks. You can win with that when your defense dominates the game the way the Jets did yesterday.

Mostert should be the feature back in Miami moving forward. Mostert had 113 yards on 18 carries and added a touchdown on the ground. And that's with the Jets keying in on the run game with a 3rd string QB under center.

Breece Hall Touchdown

The Jets got a good one in Running Back Breece Hall. Hall had 97 rushing yards, and added 100 receiving yards on just 2 receptions.

Don't Forget About Michael Carter

Michael Carter is a great second punch to Breece Hall. Carter had 2 rushing touchdowns in goal line situations and compliments Hall.

The Jets are Good

The New York Jets are 3-2, sit 2nd in the division, and have won back-to-back games for the first time since week 15 and 16 of the 2020 season. Add another good team to the AFC landscape.
