Many recently returned to theaters for the first time since 2020.  Action movie blockbusters like Maverick, Jurassic World, and Thor dominated the box office.  I missed the big movie theater experience more than anything else during the pandemic.  There is something special about walking into a theatre.  The smell of popcorn always lures me to the concession stand and I always overspend on junk food and drinks.  Shutting out the rest of world and watching an entertaining movie for two hours is a great way to relax.

As the pandemic calmed down and the world opened up again, I did not care which movie opened first.  I just wanted to return to the theatre.  However, it was obvious that Top Gun: Maverick would be the smash hit action movie where people would return to the theatre in big numbers.  The Tom Cruise thriller was supposed to be released two years ago.  Producers could have released it via any streaming service.  However they smartly waited until Maverick could be enjoyed on the big screen.  It appears many other upcoming film projects made the same decision.  As production schedules return to normal more exciting blockbusters will follow.  Black Panther and Avatar are just a couple of blockbusters-in-waiting.

Certainly, there are numerous genres of movie categories.  The Action Movie genre is among the biggest cash cow in the industry.  Some action thrillers have complicated plots.  Others have minimal plots.  But they are loaded with action that take the audience on an adrenalin-filled fantasy ride!

Here is a list of the top ten action movies/series according to me.

10. The Dark Knight Series

This is my favorite trilogy from my youth.  The fourth movie was horrible and a fifth is on the way.

2. Die Hard Series

This is not my personal favorite although it is very good.  It just seems this list would be incomplete without it.

1. John Clancy's series of Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger

I did leave The Cardinal of the Kremlin out of the mix but the other three are often overlooked as some of the best movies of all time!
