Alabama at LSU Playoff: "What? Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?" While we are reminded of Jim Mora's famous playoff quote when he was the coach of the Colts during a time when his season was going south, Saturday's college football schedule has some meaningful games. None is more important than Alabama at LSU.

This game should be considered the first unofficial playoff game of the 2024 college football season. Why? The winner will be in great position to make the newly expanded 12 team playoff while the loser will have three losses this season and probably won't make the playoffs.

ALABAMA AT LSU PLAYOFF

This week the College Football Playoff Committee released its first of weekly playoff rankings that will be used to determine the 12 teams that get to advance to the playoffs in December. (6-2) Alabama is currently ranked 11th. (6-2) LSU is on the outside looking in right now ranked 15th.

Looking ahead, Alabama has a cupcake game against Mercer, followed by a road game at Oklahoma. They close out the season at home against Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

LSU's next game is a Florida, followed by a home date against ranked Vanderbilt and the season finale where they host Oklahoma.

Alabama at LSU Playoff: Saturday's game in Baton Rouge should be considered a playoff game. It is the toughest remaining hurdle for each team. The winner will be in great shape for post season consideration. The loser will start thinking about next season.
