Now that it's October, everyone is starting think about Halloween and if you're looking to experience something a little extra spooky, one of the world's most haunted places is in Florida.
When it comes to eerie things like spirits and orbs, I can't say that I've personally experienced anything, but I know plenty of people who have. In fact, a good friend of mine grew up in a literal haunted house. He even saw floating bread in his kitchen! I can enjoy a good haunted house at the theme parks, but I'm glad I haven't lived in one with real ghosts lurking.
There are a lot of haunted places right here in Southwest Florida. A few to name include Koreshan State Park, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, The Burroughs Home and Gardens, McCollum Hall, The Naples Hotel and the Arcade Theater. And of the world's most haunted places is also right here in the Sunshine State.
One Of The World's Most Haunted Places Is In Florida
Planet Cruise put together a list of the most haunted places in the world and one of them is right here in Florida. For the research, they looked at 4 different factors: the average TripAdvisor Rating, and number of mentions of the words "haunted", "spooky" and "scary".
Coming in at #5 on the list is the St. Augustine Lighthouse. I've never been up there, but I've always wanted to go on a St. Augustine ghost tour. This lighthouse is the oldest in America and some of the things visitors have mentioned is giggling in the woods at night and seeing some sort of a shadowy figure inside the lighthouse. There are 166 mentions of the word ‘haunted’ and 73 mentions of the word ‘scary’ in their Tripadvisor reviews.
Other places in the top 5 include: Mary Kings Close in Edinburgh, Scotland, Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Crumlin Road Gaol in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Bhangarh Fort in India.
