Tips to Avoid Olympics Viewer Fatigue
Olympics Viewer Fatigue is setting in. The Olympics are in our face. Every. Single. Night. For four hours of Prime Time on NBC and all day on other networks like USA, the drumbeat of event after event goes on for over two weeks. I need a break.
Don’t get me wrong, the Olympics and the athletes that perform in them are amazing and I root for the good ole USA as much as anybody. But I’ve had my fill and I’m ready for something else to grab my attention (like football!).
Once we got past the opening ceremonies it now feels like I’ve seen everything I wanted to watch. I’ve seen the GOAT Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky. I’ve seen Sha’Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas. And I’ve seen Noah Lyles win the most exciting 100 meter sprint ever. All were awesome.
I’ve even seen triathletes swim in that sewer known as the Seine River. Yuk.
Men’s and women’s USA basketball feels like fait accompli in their separate marches to Gold. Anything else would be earth shattering news. And, the only thing left to watch is Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible-like participation in the closing ceremonies.
OLYMPICS VIEWER FATIGUE
The Olympics are a long event. But here is a secret for next time to be as efficient as possible with your viewing habits to avoid viewer burn out: Due to technology (with the time change) we know the results of the events about 6-8 hours before they air in Prime Time on NBC. If there is an an event you want to witness, don’t get sucked into the three hours of TV teases all evening while the network builds up to the main event each night. NBC pushes the biggest draw of the night to 10:15pm ET. Every night. This allows them to catch ratings at 7:15pm PT on the west coast.
To avoid Olympics Viewer Fatigue just tune in to NBC at 10:10pm ET, watch the main event for 10 minutes and you will be caught up with the important stories of the day. The next day, wash, rinse and repeat. That should help eliminate Olympics Viewer Fatigue. You are welcome.
For all the latest Olympic talk (and football) tune in each weekday from 2-6 to Craig Shemon and Company on ESPN Southwest Florida.
