BCS: WOLVERINES AND BUCKEYES

BCS:  Wolverines and Buckeyes.  Remember the old Bowl Championship System?  The BCS committee and computer nerds would put all sorts of data into a computer.  Then, technology spit out a list of the top college football teams in the country each week.  Finally, at the end of the season, the top two teams would play for the national championship.

Every year the third place team would complain that they deserved a shot at the title.  And many years the third place team would make such a strong case, like being undefeated, for example, that the nerds would tweak the formula for the following year.  For example, the nerds would program the computer to put emphasis on strength of schedule.  Or they might put emphasis on giving credit for an undefeated season.  One year the nerds made margin of victory important until people decided running up the score was not cool for college football kids.  Every year it was something different to the point that it was completely ridiculous.

TWEAKING:

The tweaking by the computer nerds was so crazy and stupid that we finally got rid of the BCS and created the 4 team playoff we have today in college football.  Just for fun, we dug out an old computer, calculator, slide rule and anything else we could find and put yester-year's BCS formula to work on today's college football teams and posted the results.  If the season ended today, the old BCS would have the Michigan Wolverines  play the Ohio State Buckeyes for the national championship.  We've posted the top 5 so you can compare it to the top 5 of today's AP College Football Poll:
