Hurricane Idalia Cleanup Hotline Closing Soon In Charlotte County

It's been two weeks since Hurricane Idalia brushed by the Southwest Florida coast. While damage to Collier, Lee and Charlotte Counties was not the likes of Hurricane Ian, there was still damage and some people are still in need. There is a hotline to call for help if you live or have a business in Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and surrounding areas. However, it wont be open much longer. The storm came ashore in the Big Bend area of Florida as a powerful category four hurricane. On the way, it caused a lot of flooding in Southwest Florida as well. There were power outages and numerous beaches were closed again for repairs.

Here are a few things that have volunteers from local relief organizations are standing by. They are waiting to help and can assist those in need.

If you call this hotline and ask for help, these services are free. However, County officials warn that service is not guaranteed. There is an overwhelming need still. In addition, the hotline is only open two more days. That is today and tomorrow. The hotline is scheduled to shut down Friday, September 15th. Don't wait. We're seeing it on the news and on social media, it's crunch time to prepare for Hurricane Idalia.

It's been nearly a year since Hurricane Ian came roaring along the Florida Gulf Coast making a direct hit on us here in Southwest Florida.  Less than one month from today, on September 28, 2023, it will be one year since the worst storm to hit Fort Myers Beach made it's mark.

While there is still so much rebuilding to be done, progress is being made.  While the threat of Idalia doesn't seem to be too great to folks in Southwest Florida at the given moment, and we all know that can change, there is a major threat headed towards our neighbors to the north.
