Lighthouse Beach Park On Sanibel Reopening

sanibel lighthouse beach park reopening

I'm so excited that next week, after months of being closed, Lighthouse Beach Park on Sanibel will be reopening.

Slowly but surely beaches around SWFL are reopening. So far on Sanibel, Bowman's Beach, Tarpon Bay Road, Blind Pass and Gulf Side City park have reopened. But tomorrow, another beach will be open for enjoyment on Sanibel- Lighthouse Beach Park.

I ran into a few issues with parking on Memorial Day (I should've known better than to wait til 11am). So I decided to try the Lighthouse Beach Park, forgetting it was closed. If you drive over there now, you'll see a gate and fencing blocking the entrance, so you can't even get in there currently. But starting next Friday, June 16, you'll be able to enjoy the beach where Sanibel's historic lighthouse stands.

If you've been out to the island, you've seen the devastation, but it's coming along. When I go to the beach, I always go to Sanibel and while seeing it the first time was tough, and admittedly not getting easier, it's nice to see people on the beach. I have to say that the parking areas and the beaches are clean, clear and beautiful. It's just the drive there that will break your heart. A lot of businesses have reopened on the island too, so before or after a beach day, maybe grab a drink or a bite to eat to show your support.

Businesses That Have Reopened On Sanibel And Captiva Since Hurricane Ian

When Hurricane Ian hit SWFL Florida in September, Sanibel and Captiva were devastated, but businesses are starting to reopen on the islands.

I love supporting local businesses and I think now more than ever they need our help. It's so sad to see what the storm did to our islands. While it'll take a long time for things to look like they did pre-Ian, I love to see businesses starting to get back on their feet. We live in paradise, so whatever we can do to support our local economy is important.

I've been spending my weekends either at Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel and it makes me so happy to see so many people out enjoying the beach. Almost like nothing ever happened. Also great to see some new things have opened or relocated and even some make-shift bars and ice cream stands (on Fort Myers Beach) set up.

If you want to go out to the islands, whether it's for a staycation, a beach day, or to grab a bite to eat, you have options! SanCap Chamber put together a list of the businesses that have reopened on Sanibel and Captiva.
