I am a bit of an ice cream connoisseur and I love ice cream in almost every flavor during any time of year. I thought it was impossible to ruin ice cream. However, the Brits over in London, suffering through the hottest summer on record, may have destroyed ice cream. Have you heard of Ketchup Ice Cream ? How about Mayonnaise or Baked Beans flavored ice cream? No? Well, it's a thing!
These travesties are being created by The Ice Cream Project. They seem to be grabbing whatever is in the back of the cupboard and turning it into an ice cream flavor. Apparently, this hideous idea will go on until the end of August. Hopefully, their heatwave will break and they will come to their senses on the other side of the pond.
In the meantime, I stand by the classics. As a youth, my first "exotic" go-to flavor was mint chocolate chip. After a while, I discovered chocolate chip cookie dough and stuck with that for a good while. Once in a while, I'd go for the hard-to-find chocolate chip chocolate. Yes, that's a lot of chocolate. I would not recommend it for anyone who has trouble sleeping.
Speaking of difficulty sleeping, I now like a coffee ice cream with Heath toffee mixed in. Delightful!
Now, we have hundreds of flavors to choose from. Although, old-fashion vanilla is still the top seller for most major brands. In the meantime, most of us have our favorites but it's always fun to try a new flavor. And I'm willing to try almost any flavor at least once. But I refuse to try these new efforts from London. I like sweet. I like sugar. Ketchup, mayonnaise, and baked beans are great for hotdogs and hamburgers on a summer day. But, I have never finished off a meal and thought, "Boy, I sure could go for a bowl of ketchup flavored ice cream right now!"
