There’s a 54 to 1 Fan To Cat Ratio At Oakland A’s Home Games

Ok, so Pete Sheppard, tipped me off to this nonsense. There are so few fans attending, and so many feral cats in the stadium, that there's an estimated 54 fans per every cat at Oakland A's home games. Here's the numbers on the Oakland A's cat problem:

On April 20th, the Oakland A's had 2,703 fans in attendance. According to Oaklandlandslide, there's also a lot of feral cats living inside the stadium. "Ann Dunn, director of Oakland Animal Services, estimates the cat population to be 40 to 50". So if there's 2703 fans, and 50 cats, that's a ratio of 54 to 1.

The population of cats has grown significantly since COVID. With the stadium empty for such a long time, the cats multiplied and thrived. (cue the Barry White). Cats have been spotted hanging out in the outfield, even lounging on the grounds crew's golf carts. So why don't they just round them up and get rid of them? Rats.

The cats are great at keeping the rodent population in check. So it's either cats or rats in Oakland. One option they're kicking around would be to hold an adoption drive for the kittens and spay/neuter some of the adults to keep the population in check.

If management gets it's way and moves the team to Las Vegas they can leave the problem to someone else. Close the gates and let the cats take over.

FYI: The Tampa Bay Rays are in Oakland for a series next week.

I'm doing this as a service to our 2022 high school graduating class. It's no secret that ya'll got a raw deal with covid wrecking a good chunk of your high school partying years.
