One-Third Of Adults Are Showing Signs Of Poor Mental Health Due To Coronavirus

Study Shows That One-Third Of Adults Are Showing Signs Of Mental Illness Due To Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic has drastically altered the world and how people live their lives. Because of this, mental health concerns have surged and are higher than ever.

A recent study was done by the U.S. Census Bureau and five federal agencies to measure "the social and economic effects of COVID-19 on American households". Per the New York Post, it was determined that because of coronavirus, one-third of Americans are currently dealing with anxiety or depression. This was based on a 90-day study with 40,000 people.

The study also revealed several other facts related to mental health concerns:

47.4 percent of adults between the ages of 18 and 29 showed signs of anxiety or depression.

The number was significantly lower for people in their 70s. 19.8 percent of that age group showed signs of mental illness.

People ages 18-29 which less education had higher rates of anxiety and depression.

Hispanic and black adults also showed higher rates of depression versus Asian or white communities.

The New York Post adds that this survey will be used to "align national health objectives, evaluate health policies and programs, and track changes in health behaviors and health care use."
