Looking For Group Helps Students Find The Esports Program Of Their Dreams
Esports are everywhere. For some, the proof lies in the 100 million people tuning in to the League of Legends World Championships. For others, it's turning on ESPN and seeing esports coverage. But for students, it's showing up on more campuses than ever before. When I was in high school, I dreamt about a world where I could earn a scholarship gaming. Today, that world has become reality. That said, finding a school that fits your needs can be extremely difficult, especially if you want to be certain it has an esports program. We're proud to partner with our friends over at Looking For Group, as they launch a directory to help solve that very problem.
What is Looking For Group?
Looking For Group is a first-of-its-kind directory that collects schools with esports programs. Students and parents can search for schools by geography, program, or even by what game they want to play. Looking for a school with a strong League of Legends team and a 4-year degree? Looking For Group has you covered.
It's getting more and more difficult to wade through the waters in collegiate esports. As more and more schools dip into esports, it's become a mess to try and figure out which schools have solid programs compared to which ones maybe just have an esports club. Looking For Group is a one-stop resource to help students and parents figure out what school meets their needs. Simply put in your search parameters, and you'll get a list of schools, whether they have a varsity program, whether scholarships are available, and what leagues they're affiliated with. And better still, it's free.
Why it matters
We're thrilled to partner with Looking For Group because they have a service that is in dire need. Finding the right school can be a life-altering choice, take it from a college drop-out. I found a school that taught me something I was truly passionate about and it changed my life. I would love to see more students get to that point without having to drop 7 years of tuition first.
But this is more than just about the students. This is an important step for the North American esports scene as well. North America lags behind other regions of the world in esports partially because of their lack of infrastructure. We have no good pipelines to scout young talent and get them to the professional level. A service like this that helps students find schools they can be successful at and continue to grow their skills could be a major part of North American esports.
Of course, the vast majority of esports athletes will never make it to the pro level. This is as true in esports as it is in meat-sports. However, if a student can use their passion for gaming to pay their way to a college degree, that's absolutely worth the effort.
How to get started
It's easy to get started! All you have to do is head on over to LFGroup.gg and put in your search parameters. Even if you only know what game you want to play, that's enough!
