One of the most anticipated games of the year, Cyberpunk 2077, is due out later this year. And while news of its second delay may have saddened gamers world wild. But CD Projekt Red gave us a sizable look at the game through the first episode "Night City Wire" stream. This is the first time we've been able to see new content from the game since its soundtrack video earlier this year. Also, select media were able to play through the first few hours of the game and shared their thoughts as well.
V is Who You Want Them To Be
As we know, there are loads of bizarre customization options including changing your genitals. But in the released footage, we saw all three prologues of which starting paths you can choose for V. For example, Nomads, start in the Badlands and deal with the local sheriff. Its very "No Country For Old Men". The Street Kid on the other hand we see attempting to steal a very expensive car from an executive parking garage.
While there are only three starting paths, the RPG elements in the game let you totally customize your V. However, there are dialogue trees and actions that are only available for certain origins. Multiple playthroughs are required to experience ALL of the game.
Night City Is More Than Just Urban Squalor
One of the biggest things we saw from the new trailer, is the inclusion of the Badlands area. This is where the Nomads begin and its a part of Night City we've never seen before. It's poor, isolated, wild, and still has some vestiges of the world that came before.
Night City itself has an overwhelming level of detail and life. Bars in different sections of the city have totally different vibes. For example, we see Afterlife which is one of the most known bars in Night City. It's straight forward, kind of dirty and filled with references to rockers past. Its Night City's version of CBGB. However, another bar we meet a gang that specializes in protecting sex workers. That locale is much softer, the lighting has hues of blues, pinks, and purple neon. It's cleaner and represents a much different part of the locale.
The Braindance Mechanic
In the Night City Wire stream, we saw a game mechanic called "Braindance". Other adventure games have different forms of surveillance based on the setting. In the Assassin's Creed series you can see the world from the viewpoint of an eagle. Or in Watch Dogs, you can hack security cameras. In Cyberpunk 2077, with all of its advanced tech and cybernetics simple surveillance is exponentially more in-depth. In the Braindance demo, we saw how layered the mechanic is.
We saw the main character, V, experience another person's final moments. A robber tries to knock over a convince store only to be killed right as they walked out with their bounty. With the Braindance, V was able to scan around the entire scene and actually see WHO killed the robber.
Cyberpunk Anime?!
Coming in 2022, the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise will come to Netflix with an anime called "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners". While we didn't get much information on what the series would be about, the same folks who created "Kill La Kill", Studio Trigger, are leading the project.
Needless to say, this game should be absolutely massive and will come with a free upgrade to next-gen consoles if you purchase on PS4 or Xbox One. Cyberpunk is scheduled to hit stores on November 19th this year.
