Tuesday marked the end of an era in Charlotte, as the Carolina Panthers officially released Cam Newton after nine seasons.
The move was expected after the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater and announced that they'd given Newton permission to seek a trade, something Newton said was "forced" on him.
Newton was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2011 and quickly became a star, winning NFL MVP in 2015 while leading the Panthers to the Super Bowl. Injuries caused him to miss 14 of 16 games last season.
