Tis the season… that’s what they say. And there are plenty of great things that come with Christmas. However, it’s not all great. I don’t want to come across as Ebenezer Scrooge in this, but there are some traditions and events that need to go. Now most of these lists that I’ve seen have kids as one of the worst things about Christmas. Couldn’t disagree more. As a parent, I love when the kids come out Christmas morning with the biggest grin of the year. Even if I don’t get all of the credit I deserve. But I digress. If you don’t like you family, then obviously spending time with them isn’t going to be something you look forward to. People who complain about these things are miserable (in most instances).

Christmas is great. The family time, time off work, and general feel of the day is something I look forward to every year. But it needs a facelift. Not so much a facelift as a fat sucking surgery. We need to do away with some of the outdated things that put a gray cloud over a great day. I have identified 6 traditions and events around Christmas that need to be done with. There is no science to this list. This is my list. With that being said, I provide a little bit of why these are the worst things about Christmas. Enjoy the list, and let me know if I missed anything. I am open to an edit after publishing. Here are the worst things about Christmas.

  • Christmas Dinner

    Worst Things about Christmas Dinner

Nobody likes to get dressed up to go to a stuffy dinner to cap off one of the most relaxing days of the year. Why not cap off the day by letting the kids play with their new toys and let the parents enjoy the day off. Christmas Eve parties are fine. They can stay. But let’s just stop with the Christmas night dinner.

  • Real Trees

    Worst Things About Christmas Trees

As someone who made the transition to a fake tree, it is 100% the way to go. By Christmas the real tree is dead, and you’ll be finding pine needles until St. Patrick’s Day. For those of you who say the smell is why you go real tree, just buy a candle.

  • Music

    Worst Things About Christmas Music

It’s not good. And to make is worse, it started getting shoved down your throat right around Thanksgiving. there are like  songs that are worth listening to, and they’re overplayed by the middle of December. We shouldn’t do away with Christmas Music all together, but we really need to back off the genre.

  • White Elephant

Worst Things About Christmas White Elephant

This is a waste of money. They’re done in the work space most often, and that’s the setting where they need to go. Nobody has ever liked a white elephant gift in the history of white elephant gifts. If you want to get someone a gift, then give someone a gift. you shouldn’t be forced into the act. Instead of having employees buy each other gifts, maybe the company should come off some money and get everyone a gift card.

  • Glitter Wrapping Paper

    Worst Things About Christmas Glitter

Get regular wrapping paper. Nobody cares what the gift is wrapped in. So don’t set off a glitter bomb. Just go with the regular wrapping paper. Stop trying to be extra.

  • Taking Down Decorations

    Worst Things About Christmas Decorations

This is a necessity, but it is maybe the worst thing about Christmas. At least when you’re getting everything down and set up, you’re in the holiday spirit. Taking them down sucks. And the task normally falls on the dad. While the kids are playing with their new toys, dad is back on the roof for a second time in a month span praying the roof tiles don’t give out. Then there’s boxing everything up. You told yourself you would organize everything this year to make life easier for you next year. That never happens. You can’t do away with this part of Christmas, but it still stinks.
