Summer is winding down, but we don't really have to worry about that in Florida. After all, we're the sunshine state. Either way, one Florida town has been named one of the best for not only a vacation but also year-round and summer festivals, according to experts. It's an adorable small lake town, too.
Florida Town is Great for Year-Round and Summer Festivals
What's your favorite Florida small town to visit in the summer? Everyone has their pick. I have friends many different parts of Florida, so my personal picks are based on where they live, which is Orlando, Tampa and Tallahassee. The experts at Thrillist.com have a new feature out about the best South Carolina lake towns to visit in the summer months. Of course, in Florida, these spots could be great places to visit year-round. "Whether you live in a landlocked state or overlook the ocean, chances are there's a lake within a two-hour drive that you and everyone you know never refer to by name," they state. "It’s just 'The Lake,' and those two words evoke images of dockside cannonballs, twilight barbecues, and general relaxation in nature." It's true that going to a lake town, or any small town, really, is such a peaceful experience and very relaxing.
The travel experts at Thrillist.com picked Mount Dora, Florida, as one of the best lake towns in the entire U.S. to visit when it comes to lake fun in the summer. This beautiful lake town is roughly 45 minutes north of Orlando, and it's also a perfect spot for year-round and summer festivals. VisitFlorida.com describes it as, "a relaxing lakefront getaway with a bustling downtown, charming bed and breakfasts, and an abundance of parks and green spaces." What's really cool about this spot is that it's often called "Festival City," because it hosts more than 30 festivals a year, offering something to do in any season, even if you decide not to go there in the summer. So, whether you're looking for year-round or summer festivals, Mount Dora is king. "In addition to the longstanding Mount Dora Arts Festival, the city's arts and culture scene offers a variety of galleries and museums, including Modernism Museum Mount Dora, where visitors can also dine on contemporary Florida cuisine at 1921 Mount Dora and shop at the museum store. For a sampling of what local restaurants have to offer, take a food and wine tasting tour."
Thrillist.com picked Mount Dora as a favorite spot to visit because of its bounty of small town tourism attractions. While you're there, they suggest staying at the historic Lakeside Inn, which dates back to 1883, where you can "grab a drink and sit out on its long covered porch, enjoying the sunset over the relatively-undisturbed slice of Florida nature."
