Odell Beckham Jr is continuing his ACL rehab, but is getting closer to being game ready. He played this offseason beautifully. He can sit back, get his knee right, and pick a contender to sign with to try to go get another ring. Von Miller was asked about his relationship with OBJ this week. Von said he still speaks with Odell weekly, and could see him fitting in with the Bills. These comments got me thinking where will Odell Beckham sign? There are three boxes that the team he signs with should check. 1) Is it a place where he can show he's skill set. 2) Is there a QB who can get him the ball consistently. 3) Is the team a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Check the Boxes
So, where will Odell Beckham sign? I can think of 5 teams that check the boxes that Odell should be looking for. Tampa, Buffalo, Kansas City, LA Rams, and Arizona . I think all of these teams can get OBJ the ball consistently, have a need for another WR, and have Super Bowl aspirations. I'll rank these 5 teams from best fit to worst fit, and why the teams should try to go out and Odell.
Odell Beckham is Elite
There were a lot of people (me included) who thought OBJ was done being an elite WR at the end of his Cleveland tenure. However, what Beckham did for the Rams at the end of last season and post-season showed that he can still deliver at an elite level for a Super Bowl contender. Going back to the Super Bowl last season, he was the best WR on the field- not Cooper Kupp.
5. Buffalo Bills
Any receiver would love to play with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. I put them at #5 because of the other WR's in Buffalo. Stefon Diggs, Isaiah Alexander, and Gabe Davis are as good of a trio the league has. He won't get the volume needed to get one last big time deal with another team.
4. Los Angeles Rams
We have seen what Odell can do in a Sean McVay offense. He would immediately slide into the #2 pass catching option in the Rams offense behind Cooper Kupp. However, the offensive line has not been playing well, and Matthew Stafford doesn't look like the Stafford of last year. I don't know if the Rams will make the playoffs, let alone make a deep playoff run.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
TB12 and OBJ have wanted to play together going back to the days of Brady in Foxboro. The Bucs are a flawed team right now, but that should get straightened out with the GOAT leading the way. It is a crowded WR room with Godwin, Evans, and Julio. But Cole Beasley just retired a few weeks after signing with the Bucs. Was that the team telling him to scram in order to create a roster spot for Odell?
2. Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals are a big question mark right now. Once they get DeAndre Hopkins back from his 6-game suspension, this team will look very different. I would love to see Odell lining up opposite Hopkins and Brown. I don't know if they are a true Super Bowl contender, but I could see OBJ putting up crazy number getting single coverage consistently against the defenses #2 CB.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
This is the one team that checks all of the boxes. Patrick Mahomes is elite (obviously) and can get him the ball all over the field. The team is in need of a true #1 WR. And through the first 4 weeks, they are set up to make a deep playoff run. If I were OBJ I would sign with KC yesterday, and start putting up big numbers that will get me paid handsomely next offseason.
