We hear so much about all the people moving to SWFL, not really leaving, but here's a list of the Top 10 cities people left Fort Myers for in 2022.
While people that have lived here forever wish it would stop, there seems to be no stopping people leaving colder weather states for an endless summer. You hear people talking all the time about how this town "isn't what it used to be" or worried about the beach losing it's charm. And while you'd think the hurricane would deter people from moving here, that doesn't seem to be happening either. In fact, just the other day, the most expensive home in Sanibel history just sold.
There are people though that are leaving Fort Myers behind. Now, that number is much smaller than those moving here, but it is happening. You might wonder where they're going and why. While I can't answer the latter, I CAN, with the help of Redfin, tell you where they've gone. It is interesting though to see that those who lived in sunny, warm SWFL don't go too far. They, like me, must never want to be (too) cold again!
