The first College Football Playoff Rankings revealed tonight at 7pm.  Here's a preview:

With the first College Football Playoff rankings coming up on tonight at 7pm on ESPN, six teams have at least a 50% chance to reach the Playoff according to the Allstate Playoff Predictor. No other team has more than a 10% chance.

Those 6 teams are:

Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Clemson and Michigan

And The Rodney Dangerfield No Respect Award Goes To TCU

While TCU isn’t getting much respect in the AP Poll – where it is ranked behind one-loss Alabama – the Horned Frogs have compiled one of the best résumés in the nation. According to ESPN’s Strength of Record metric, the Horned Frogs have the third-best résumé this season behind Tennessee and Ohio State. The race for 4th is extremely tight; the average Top-25 team would have a 28% chance to go 8-0 against Clemson’s or Georgia’s schedule and 7-1 against Alabama’s and a 30% chance to go 8-0 against Michigan’s.

Same Old Same Old

The SEC and Big Ten are virtual locks to send at least one team to the Playoff. According to the Allstate Playoff Predictor, the SEC has a 73% chance to send multiple teams to the Playoff while the Big Ten has a 38% chance to have at least two teams in the field.

WHAT DO THE INITIAL COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS MEAN?

Seven of the eight No. 1 teams in the first CFP rankings of each season have reached the College Football Playoff. The only exception is Mississippi State in 2014, the first year of the playoff.

No. 1 Team in First CFP Rankings of Each Season – Since 2014

Made CFP?

2021 Georgia Yes
2020 Alabama Yes
2019 Ohio State Yes
2018 Alabama Yes
2017 Georgia Yes
2016 Alabama Yes
2015 Clemson Yes
2014 Mississippi State No

Craig Shemon Expansion Numbers He Hates

Expanding this, 14 of the 16 teams ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in the first CFP rankings have made the College Football Playoff. The exceptions are Mississippi State in 2014 and LSU in 2015.

In a weird quirk, only one team ranked No. 3 in the initial CFP rankings has made the playoff. That was Clemson in 2020.

Now, just because a team is outside the top-10 in the first rankings, does not mean the end of their season. Two teams outside the top-10 in the initial CFP rankings have reached the playoff: 2014 Ohio State (16th) and 2015 Oklahoma (15th).

Pete's College Football Playoff prediction tonight:

  1. Georgia
  2. Tennessee
  3. Ohio State
  4. Michigan

Twitter Police Sunshine State Edition 11/1

Twitter Police Sunshine State Edition for 11/1 is here.  We’re going to do it again today at 3:45pm on the Shemon and Sheppard Show.  Yet another display of awesome human stupidity will be revealed.

It never ceases to amaze me that each week that these men and women featured in this segment find new, innovative and often times disgusting ways to humiliate themselves. I mean from nudity, cussing in public, police chases when the idiot being pursued often times is not in a car and so on.

When one has the honor of making Twitter Police Sunshine State Edition,  I feel like we should give out a weekly award for the biggest idiot of the week.  I have another idea to gather the 52 winners, one a week for a year, and have an awards dinner.

Granted, the honored guests would be cuffed and under strict police/security supervision for the evening.  However, being the generous person that I am, I would gladly arrange for them to be uncuffed while we have our awards dinner at any one of the fine Waffle Houses in the area.  These people deserve the best.

The first ever Shemon and Sheppard Twitter Police Sunshine State Edition Awards Gala.  Has a nice ring to it don’t you think?  Categories you ask?  Here are a few samples but I’m always open to suggestions!

Here are just a few examples:
