Are Californians and East Coast residents eyeing a move to our area? Not as many as you realized. Many of the people looking to buy homes in Cape Coral are already from South Florida.

The number of homes on the market is well below pre-pandemic levels nationwide, and that scarcity is keeping home prices elevated even as sales have slowed in the past year. Likewise, Southwest Florida real estate continues to be hot. My neighbor just sold their house at asking after less than a week on the market. Even though we’re only 5 months removed from a major hurricane. If you’ve tried to drive anywhere in the past month, you’re aware of how many people are here.

As Americans navigate an ever-complicated market, online house hunting has become an essential part of the process. A 2021 National Association of Realtors report showed 97% of homebuyers used online websites when searching for a home in the United States.

Stacker compiled statistics about people in cities looking to buy homes in Cape Coral using cross-market demand data from Realtor.com. View share is the percentage of views to Cape Coral from each respective metro. Cross-market demand statistics are as of Q4 2022.

    • So in this data, the majority of New Yorkers looking to move are considering a move out of state. And it continues to look like the state they’re targeting is us here in Florida.
