FGCU Beat USC!

FGCU Beats USC!

FGCU beat USC 74-61 on Monday night to give the Eagles their first win under Patrick Chambers. The Eagles never looked out of place while on the court with the Pac-12 side. Although the Trojans jumped out to a 21-10 lead, the Eagles fought back in the first half to go into the locker room trailing by 1, 30-29. FGUu turned up the pressure defensively in the second half and limited USC to just 2 points over a 8:04 stretch. The offense was cooking for FGCU in the second half as well. They put up an impressive 45 points in the second half last night. The Patrick Chambers era at FGCU got off to one of the 3 best regular season wins in program history. Next up for the Eagles is San Diego, who also boasts a 1-0 record. That game will be on Wednesday night at 10 o'clock.

Chase Johnston was the star of the evening for the Eagles. The transfer from Stetson shot 50% from the field to get to his 20 points off the bench. He added 3 rebounds, plus 2 assists and steals. It was a good first game for the Boca native. Johnston was not the only transfer to make an impact for FGCU last night. Purdue transfer Guard Isaiah Thompson scored 16 points, all in the second half. When he was working offensively, the offense was operating at a high level. The combo of Thompson and Johnston gives the Eagles their best back court duo since Dunk City marched their way to the Sweet 16 in 2013. It's early, but they have the makings of a tournament team. Here's some of the twitter noise as FGCU beat USC!
