Week 2 of the college football season, and all but 2 games of the NFL’s week 1 are in the books. There were winners and losers in every game, but here are the biggest winners, and the largest losers.
Winner: Sam Ehlinger
ShareTexas could not stop the LSU offense, but Sam Ehlinger kept the Longhorns in the game Saturday night. Ehlinger was 31/47 for 401 yards at 4 touchdowns and another rushing touchdown. Texas might not be "back", but Ehlinger is the real deal
Loser: Kellen Mond
ShareIt was always going to be tough to go into Clemson and beat the defending National Champs. BUt, the way Mond came out against the Tigers gave the Aggies no shot; Mond missed on his first 5 attempts, and finished the game 24/42 for just 236 yards and had a TD in the final seconds to go along with one pick.
Winner: Vikings Defense
ShareThe Vikings D returned to their 2017 form that took them to the NFC Championship. The Falcons didn't sniff the endzone until the game was in hand in the 4th quarter. This defense was stifling.
Loser: Tennessee Volunteers
ShareThe Vols followed up an embarrassing loss to Georgia State win an OT loss to BYU. Tennessee football is an embarrassment to the rest of the SEC, and Jeremy Pruitt needs a win against UT Chattanooga, or they're staring 0-8 in the face.
Winner: Dak Prescott
ShareDid Jerry really need to give Zeke all that money with a QB like Dak? In his first game with Kellen Moore calling plays, Dak showed out going 25/32 for 405 yards and 4 touchdowns. The rest of the NFC should be on high alert after Dak's performance against the Giants
Loser: Jameis Winston
ShareMore of the same from Jameis. Way too many turnovers coming at inopportune times. 3 picks to 1 TD is not good enough. Good news for him though; there's not a backup on the roster to threaten him as the starter.
Winner: Mike Locksley
ShareA lot of people didn't know what to make of a 79-0 win over HOward in week 1, but the Terps 63-20 blowout over Syracuse is turning heads around college football. Mike Locksley is the real deal.
Loser: New York Jets Offense
ShareOUCH... Adam Gase still is known around the league as an offensive guru and QB whisperer (whatever that means). Darnold didn't look like he took that next step we we're all expecting him to take, and outside of Le'Veon Bell the offense looked stagnant
5. Baltimore Ravens (2-0; W 23-17 vs. ARI)
ShareLamar Jackson is looking good! Granted it's been against the 2 of the worst teams in the league.
Loser: Michigan Football
ShareAnother offseason of Michigan fans telling anyone with ears "this is the year." Yeah right. Army took Michigan to 2OT, and should have won that game. the team was booed off the field at halftime, then we banana's when they beat Army. Michigan should be very afraid going up against a really good Wisconsin team next weekend.
Winner: Joe Burrow
ShareSEC defensive coordinators are shaking in their press box watching LSU's offense Saturday night against Texas. Burrow went 31-39 for 471 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Tigers got the best win of the college football season so far. LSU is not only going to challenge Alabama for the SEC West crown, but firmly planted themselves as National Championship contenders.
Loser: Willie Taggart
ShareWillie Taggart's seat is officially engulfed in flames right now. After blowing a lead at halftime against Boise State last weekend, the Noles lucked their way into an overtime win against Louisiana-Monroe. Taggart has got to go at the end of the season, or before. We've all seen enough to know this dude ain't the dude.
