Aaron Rodgers led the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 28-15 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. Completing 23 of 27 passes, Rodgers achieved an impressive 85.2% completion rate, threw for 224 yards, and tossed two touchdowns. He connected with eight different targets.
Previously with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers clinched a win at Super Bowl XLV over 18 seasons. After moving to the New York Jets in 2023, he played just one game due to injury, starting 17 games in 2024. Released after that, the Pittsburgh team picked him up for 2025.
Rodgers praised his teammates, referring to them as "castoffs," and valued their background and character. One standout was Kenneth Gainwell, who was impressive by catching all seven targets and rushing for 80 yards, leading Miami in this area.
Gainwell, on a one-year, $1.79 million deal, earned Rodgers' praise, "He's a playmaker. He's done everything we've asked him to do and more."
Connor Heyward scored Pittsburgh's first touchdown just before halftime with a third-and-1 push. The team then found the end zone on four consecutive drives, a feat last seen in Week 2 of 2018.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who previously suited up for the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, was added to the 53-man roster on game day. He caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers. "He's not afraid to throw it to anybody. If you get open, he'll find you," said Valdes-Scantling.
Asante Samuel Jr., from the Los Angeles Chargers, made his first Steelers start by picking off Tua Tagovailoa. Cam Heyward credited the team's preparation, saying, "Asante has been chomping at the bit to get reps, and he played very well with them."
Dylan Cook, a fourth-string left tackle, made his first career start, playing a crucial role. Coach Mike Tomlin complimented his performance, noting, "Dylan Cook stepped up. He was above the line."
The win put Pittsburgh at the top of the AFC North, ahead of the Baltimore Ravens, marking their first streak of consecutive wins since October. Linebacker Patrick Queen emphasized its importance: "This is a big win for us. We've got some tough games coming up."
Rodgers' performance contributed to his outstanding career stats of over 65,000 passing yards and 525 touchdowns. With this victory, the Steelers show resilience and preparedness for future challenges.
