Starting today, September 8, 2025, Florida starts its first tax break on hunting, fishing, and camping equipment. The holiday goes until December 31, 2025, with no cost limits on firearms and ammunition.

Shoppers could save $44.8 million overall. The state expects to lose $34.6 million in tax money, while local governments will give up $10.2 million in funds.

"Anytime you could save a buck on something, especially these days, it's a good time," said Mike Sfakianos of Bill Jackson's Gun Shop to Fox 13 News.

The tax break comes with specific price limits. Small stuff like fishing supplies and bait under $5 qualify, while basic items like flashlights and tackle boxes need to cost less than $30 to be tax-free.

For people going camping, stuff under $50 - from camping stoves to sleeping bags - won't get taxed. Looking for a new fishing rod? Ones up to $75 are included. Bigger items like tents get the break up to $200.

Bass Pro Shops leads the pack of stores taking part. The timing lines up perfectly with Florida's best outdoor season.

Unlike other tax holidays, this one covers bows, crossbows, guns, and ammunition without any price limits. It's the first time for the state.

Not everything is included - you'll still pay tax on rentals and fixes. Don't expect savings at theme parks, entertainment spots, hotels, or airports.

Local gun stores are seeing more customers come in. At Bill Jackson's, layaway spots are getting filled quickly as people get ready for tax-free shopping.

This break comes from a law passed in June 2025, as part of a bigger effort to lower taxes across Florida.
