The Florida Southwestern State softball team remains No. 1 in the national rankings, keeping their hold on first place while beating all opponents during their perfect 24-game run.

Their undefeated season includes big wins against five teams ranked in the top 15, including a commanding victory over No. 3 Indian River.

Being ranked No. 1, sophomore first baseman and designated player Virginia Mambelli told Wink News, "We know that we have that target and that pushes us to do our best.”

In the tough Suncoast Conference where three teams are ranked in the top 10, Coach Robert Iamurri believes these challenging games help prepare the team for the playoffs.

"We want to play, we want to win and we just want to be the best we can be," Emily Allegood, FSW sophomore pitcher and third baseman, told Wink News.

The Bucs will next face Central Florida in a doubleheader on March 14.
