At 14, Jesus Bethencourt from Bonita Springs has earned a spot at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals. The event takes place at Augusta National Golf Club on April 6, 2025.
Out of thousands of competitors, Bethencourt landed one of just 80 spots in this elite tournament. The competition, happening right before the Masters, brings together young golfers from 28 U.S. states, two Canadian provinces, and India.
He picked up golf only four years ago. His dad, who's played the sport for fifty years, watches proudly as his son grows in the game.
This free program is open to kids aged 7-15, divided into four age groups. Since starting in 2014, 721 young golfers have competed at Augusta's legendary course for the finals.
Six players are coming back this year. Among them is Alexandra Phung, a four-time finalist and 2023 winner, looking to keep her title.
Three major golf groups - the Masters Tournament, PGA of America, and USGA - organize this event. Winning requires skill in driving far, chipping close, and sinking putts.
Players will show their skills on the same famous course where professionals compete for the green jacket each spring. Bethencourt becomes the first finalist ever from Bonita Springs.
