Too Many NFL Penalties

Too Many NFL Penalties

There are too many NFL penalties. There are two ways to view penalties. A bad, undisciplined team may commit too many penalties. Or officials are calling too many penalties.

Take Monday night's game between the Bills and Jets, for example. Officials called 22 penalties in a game televised nationally. And typically the Jets fit the description of a team that is bad and undisciplined. They make a lot of mistakes.

But if a penalty has nothing to do with the outcome of the play, then my recommendation would be to let it go. But the penalty that drives me crazy the most is Roughing the Passer. If the defender even remotely lands on a quarterback (gravity) while making a routine sack, then these officials are instructed to error on the side of throwing their yellow flag.

TOO MANY NFL PENALTIES

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers pointed out how he was sacked twice Monday night where the defender who tackled him was called for Roughing the Passer. Even Rodgers, who took the punishment and received the benefit of the penalties said he was not roughed!

Too many NFL penalties! Come on NFL! Let's get it together. We can continue to protect the quarterback and still let football be football. People tune in to see football. They do not tune in to watch referees call penalties.
