Tropical Storm Isaac Has Formed And It Doesn’t Matter
As all eyes in Florida are on Hurricane Helene, another storm has formed. Tropical Storm Isaac now exists in the Atlantic Ocean. Those of us in Southwest Florida refer to this as the dreaded “I” storm, but there’s some relief as this year, the “I” storm simply doesn’t matter.
Hurricane Helene
First let’s take a look at the storm that does matter. Hurricane Helene is currently passing by those of us in Southwest Florida with 100 mph winds and a promise to grow into a much stronger storm as it heads towards the Tallahassee area. I have a friend there and she says she spotted Jim Cantore, that’s never a good sign.
In Southwest Florida, we’re currently under a Tropical Storm Warning (in case you hadn’t been outside yet today), and the Hurricane Warnings begin just north of Tampa. It’s been gusty, and the lights have flickered a couple of times, but we’ll be ok. I do worry about Tallahassee, though. They have a lot of big, old trees over power lines. Those branches start breaking and they’ll definitely be without power. The surge looks to be pretty nasty, too.
Tropical Storm Isaac
In Southwest Florida, we always look to the “I” storm. Hurricane Irma did massive damage, especially in Collier County, and then of course Hurricane Ian changed Fort Myers Beach forever. So let me be one of the first to say that Tropical Storm Isaac, which will soon become a hurricane, is zero threat to Florida. it actually looks to be headed to Portugal. Our former engineer Richard moved to Portugal because he was sick of dealing with hurricanes. Ironic, huh?
So yes, we have tremendous concern for those who will be effected by Hurricane Helene. It’s a massive storm that will likely still have hurricane strength even as it reaches Atlanta. And that planned stall over the Tennessee / Kentucky border is going to cause flooding. But for those of us in Southwest Florida who remember all too well the dreaded “I” storm, know that Tropical Storm Isaac simply doesn’t matter.
There is another storm forming, and I’ll point it out while we’re here. Like Tropical Storm Isaac, that one doesn’t matter either.
For those of you in the path of Hurricane Helene, we’re thinking of you, and when the storm passes, we’ll help out anyway we can.
