How Many Nicknames Do You Have For Your Pet?

How many nicknames do you have for your pet? If you're anything like me, it's hard to keep track of all of them!

Honestly, I think I rarely call my dog by his name! I'm always using one of his many many nicknames. He has to be in a lot of trouble in order for me to call him "Farley" other than that it's usually a cute term of endearment. Are you the same way or am I a weirdo?

Do You Use A Lot Of Nicknames For Your Pet?

It doesn't matter if you're a dog person or a cat person--you can even be a fan of lizards or snakes--you probably have a couple of nicknames you use for your pet. Some of these nicknames might be puns, they might be based on something they do, or just nonsense. Likewise, you might use some of these nicknames all the time in public, or they might be embarrassing and you only use them at home. Admittedly, I have several of those. My girlfriend is always embarrassed when I mention them in public, where others can hear and judge.

It's just like how we all have our "pet voices" that we use when talking to our pets. We'd never in a million years talk to our friends or co-workers that way. In fact, we'd probably be mortified if anyone outside of our home heard us using these voices. Where do they come from? Why do we do it?

It's something we're all guilty of, I'm sure. However, do you use as many nicknames for your pet as I do? It's a hard call. I feel like I'm making up a new one every day. It's a trial and error thing, sometimes they stick and other times they're a one-and-done nickname. It can be tough because you pick out a name before you really get to know the pet and its personality--sometimes even before you meet them at all! So, often nicknames are obtained once you learn about them and their little quirks that make them unique.

How many nicknames do you have for your pet? I've got at least 14 that I'll share in the Instagram video below. Poor guy doesn't know what he's called anymore, probably.

There's something truly special about having a close relationship with your pet. They say a dog is "man's best friend," and it's totally accurate. I have friends and family who truly feel like their pets are a member of the family. Pets will be there for you through thick and thin. Pets are also know for being loyal, which can be a really good feeling in this world. So, what are the most popular dogs right now?

Danspetcare.com has a great article out that names the most popular dogs in the world right now. In it, they describe that special relationship that one has with their pet. "From hunting to sled-pulling to herding and protection, dogs have helped us survive and thrive in countless ways," they explain. "One of the most important roles dogs play in our lives is companionship."

So, what do you do if you're in the market for a new dog? Danspetcare.com has some good advice on how to pick the right breed. They explain that finding the right breed is a big part of that decision. So, ask yourself, do you want a delicate breed or a more meaty, masculine breed? Either way, when you're in the market for a new pet, make sure to have lots of questions and ask the right people before settling on your little guy or gal. I remember one of my friends buying the cutest little puppy ever only to see it grow into a huge dog that was almost too big for her apartment. Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
